Lol do you want to hear about my breakfast everyday!?! Well anyways I’m still going to tell you about today’s hahah. I went down and my eyes locked on the freshly squeezed orange juice, so bless. No joke I think it actually got better than last time and that’s impossible. While getting my orange juice an employee asked me if I would like eggs, so of course I said yes! Five minutes later she came out with freshly scrambled eggs with ham and cheese made just for me. I also had watermelon, toast, and tea!
Today was the earliest I’ve had to wake up so far because I had class at 9am and I wanted to leave by 8:30. Definitely didn’t have to leave that early to walk there, but I wanted to get there early to find my class. I had business first and let me tell you that class was the best way to start off my summer abroad. The class was four hours but it honestly felt like I was there for thirty minutes. There was only one other girl in the class and me. It’s a huge change going from large 100+ people classes to only two people in my class. Our teacher Juan first started off by asking us so many questions, like where we came from, what we were here for, where we see ourselves in five years, what we want to gain from this class, etc. When my classmate, Hannah, and I would answer the questions he really seemed to care about our answers. It was so cool to see how much he cared. After we finished the personal questions we moved on to learning a little background about Peru and about all their past presidents. During lecture I made a lot of connections to the US and I would ask if it was something like what I was thinking of. He would get so excited and say great analogy, Cassidy. Lol he made me feel so smart. But this semester in our class we are going to do and learn so much and I just cannot wait. One of our “in the field” assignments is going to a women’s shelter for girls who have been abused and are teenage moms. There the girls make items to sell and our job is to help teach them marketing and business skills to help them sell more items so they can make enough money to leave the shelter and support themselves. Guy’s like what!? That is going to be the most rewarding experience ever.
After class a bunch of us had some free time before our next classes so we went to the Plaza and got hamburgers! It was literally just like a Burger King but better. The fries were so nicely seasoned and tasted so much better than US fries hahaha. We walked around for a bit and then headed back to the University for my next class.
Next class up was nutrition… so darn the communications class is in Spanish 🙁 I’m still kind of iffy about this nutrition class but I think it’s going to be really good for me and I am going to learn a lot. It is going to be a challenging class for me, because no joke I have like three fifteen minute presentations, four five minute presentations, a forty minute debate with the only other girl in my class and some other assignments. So if you didn’t catch that I will have a lot of work and this class only has me and one other student in it too lol. But for some of our field trips we will be going to local markets and trying different food and also we get to go to a cooking lesson and eat what we cook. So pray I can make mine at least editable hahah.
Class ended around 6pm so on my way back home I wanted to grab some dinner so I wouldn’t have to get back out. I knew there was a sandwich and fruit shop right by my place so I thought that would be perfect. I went in and got a menu, yes, it was in complete Spanish again. I saw a queso sandwich so I was praying it would be a grilled cheese. I then looked into the case and pointed to some freshly cut mangoes. She said okay and charged me. I waited for it to be ready so I could take it and go. They put my sandwich in a bag and then the lady puts a straw in the bag. I knew I didn’t order a drink so I was kind of confused. Low and behold I heard a blender go off in the background and right then I knew she was making me a smoothie hahahah. When I got home I tried it immediately and yes of course it was straight mango and watermelon hahahha. Who makes a mango watermelon smoothie??? Literally no ice, no anything, just mango and watermelon blended. Definitely would have added more fruits if I knew it was going to be a smoothie, but no worries it was still delicious. Nothing gets better than the fresh fruit here in Cusco.
I had such a long but fun day! I’m so pumped for classes tomorrow and I think I am going to get up and run in the morning. I’m not feeling elevation sickness anymore so I think I’m going to give running a go. Wish me luck!
