If you know me you know I love enjoying a balanced life style. Yes, I might eat a whole tub of Blue Bell Cookie Two Step ice cream but on the other hand I might be just as crazy and do two workouts in one day. That to me is called balance. Ever since I stared my health journey two and a half years ago I vowed to myself that I would do what my body wants. I was absolutely not going to starve myself or do anything drastic, but I was going to make small changes that hopefully would make a huge impact.
Along with diet my physical activity was very important to me. I played sports growing up and I lost that activity in my later high school years and coming into college. I could tell it was affecting me. My mood was down, I was feeling thuggish and just not myself. I was intimidated to go to the gym and was not confident to run outside with people watching me. I was kind of in a rut and didn’t know what to do. Then I found cycling. Let me tell you, I am the most uncoordinated person that can’t keep a beat or dance to a rhythm, so cycling and ridding to music did intimidate me at first.
When I went to my very first cycling class I couldn’t even keep up, I am shocked I even went back and gave it a second shot, but I’m glad that I did. I have grown to love cycling more than anything and it not only keeps me on track with my fitness goals but it reenergizes me and makes me feel on top of the world. It doesn’t matter how tired I am or if I don’t feel well, cycling instantly changes my mood a minuet into class.
When I am at RYDE I feel happy and ready to take on the world. RYDE to me is more than just a cycling studio, it is a home. I started going to the Downtown location and let me tell you it’s nothing that you’ve ever seen before. First, cycling studio in downtown?? You can ride before or after work… or lunch time if you can sneak away. Second, the lights in this studio are insane. They can change color to go with the music or light up depending on the beat. You might not think that’s special, but to me the mood is everything. I thrive off the energy in the room and the lights help with just that. Third, PARKING. Yes, you heard me right there is *free* parking in the garage right next to the studio. Downtown Houston with parking?? Okay sold.
Honestly, I could go on and on about the studio in general but that’s not the only reason I choose to go to RYDE. The studio itself is amazing but I also love the instructors. You also have to love the instructor as well. If you are new to cycling, my first recommendation would be 1) don’t give up and 2) find the instructor that works for you. They all have a different style and music choice. Just know, you aren’t going to love every instructor and every class. At RYDE I have tried over eight instructors and have found several that I love. It honestly hypes me up when I am on my way to class knowing “so and so” is going to teach my class that day. The instructors become your motivators (and motivation because like come on they are all so in-shape and cuteee) and your biggest cheerleaders.
Along with the amazing Downtown studio and instructors I love RYDE because of their metric system. Every time you go to class your bike tracks your RPM, power, energy, miles you’ve gone and calories you’ve burned. After class you get an email with all of your information and it is saved to your account online so you can compare yourself to your past performance. It also tells you your rank from each class. I have never been the best in class but it is something I work for every time. The highest rank I have gotten is 5th place but darn was I proud of myself! I made it in the top 5.
I could still go on and on about RYDE. Clearly I love them dearly and love going to class. I know I talked a lot about the Downtown location a lot because its closer to my house, but they also have a River Oaks location too! I have been there once and absolutely loved the high ceilings in the studio, you feel like you have so much space. RYDE is also great to go to with friends. Half the classes I’ve gone to have been with my friend Rachael. We both love a good workout and it makes it even more fun going with a friend.
Now you’re probably wondering how much this all cost and honestly it is worth the price. It might seem like a lot but think about it like this– it’s just like having a gym membership and personal trainer all in one. I have linked to their pricing HERE and if you’d like to try it out, your first RYDE is only $15! Also, RYDE is one of the few studios in Houston to offer an unlimited plan. That is especially great if you plan to go twice a week or so! You actually end up saving yourself gobs of money!
If you ever have any questions you can find me at RYDE to answer them 😜 hehe JK just ask away! I am 100% not an expert or anything but I am absolutely obsessed with RYDE and love going. I want you to love going as well so if you ever need anything let me know! Until next time…
*Parking is free before 8:30am and after 5pm. AKA free parking before work and after work. Any other time parking is only a whopping $4. Just don’t forget to get your ticket validated.
