Shop my look:
I hope everyone had an amazing Labor Day Weekend. Today I sharing something a little different… I am sharing how I found my now career path. I get questions all the time about what I do and how I got to where I am today. It hasn’t always been a clear path, but I am proud of my journey and excited to share it with y’all!
How it all started
In high school many of y’all know I went to cosmetology school. My plan since junior high was to obtain my cosmetology license in high school, go to college to study entrepreneurship and then one day own my own hair salon. I have always been obsessed with the idea of owning something of my own. I think it would be a really cool to make something of my own and design a place from the ground up.
When I got to college I was super excited to be in the business school. I went to all my classes and something inside of me started telling me this wasn’t the career path for me. I took accounting two years in high school and I really loved it. But, when I got to college my business accounting classes were not thing. There were just so many small signs like this adding up telling me something wasn’t right with me in the business school.
Realizing I needed a change
Ever since I arrived at the University of Houston I always noticed the Hilton Hotel on campus. I never knew hospitality school was a thing but was intrigued by it. I have traveled my whole life and it is my most favorite thing to do. So I started looking into the Hilton Conrad College and decided that I needed to make a change. At the end of my freshman year I applied for hospitality school. I got in and started classes at the beginning of my sophomore year! From my first of Intro in Hospitality class, I knew this was the major and industry for me.
Finding my passion
I hit the ground running in hospitality school and wanted to be involved in everything. So much so I applied for many summer internships and landed several. I ended up choosing to intern at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa and I couldn’t have picked a better hotel and company to work for. This internship solidified my love for the hospitality industry and hotels.
After that summer, I continued with my new dream and graduated college having accepted a full time position with Marriott International. I started my career the month after graduation in June 2018 and have since been promoted. I love everything I do and I feel so lucky to have found my way in college. If you have ever felt like something is wrong in your life seek a change and you will find where you need to be. Never settle for anything and always strive to be better.
xoxo, Cass
