*Vacation me the weekend before all of this sh*t went down. I promise better times will come again š + we can save some money along the way*
We currently are in uncharted territories during the time of COVID-19. Starting 2020, we all had so much hope for this new and exciting year. We all made our bucket lists and goals for 2020 and most of us have had to put those dreams on hold. For the time being, we know this is our new normal – staying at home and social distancing. The sad part is many people, including myself, have been put on reduced hours at work or completely laid off. Instead of sitting and being upset about the situation at hand, I want you to have a positive outlook! This will come to an end and WE WILL get through this together.
Unsubscribe
You do not need YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney + and Hulu all together. Chose one or maybe two and cancel the rest! Beyond TV look at your Spotify, Apple Music, Photoshop, Canva, tanning, food delivery subscriptions and evaluate if you really need them right now. You can always re-subscribe later, but for now save that money or ask your friends to share accounts with so you can save a tad.
Pantry Clean Out/ Other Food Saving Ideas
Go through your pantry, I guarantee you have food in there you forgot about. Whether it be pasta, rice, canned soup EAT IT! Try to make a goal to go through everything in your pantry before you go grocery shopping again.
Before you go to the grocery store make a list, that way youāre not just throwing things in your cart that you donāt need. Better yet, order your groceries online for curbside pick-up, that way you are not tempted in-store to purchase something not on your list.Ā
Yes, planning your food out for the week can be annoying, tiring and hard, but if you really want to save money you will make the time to plan.
Utilities
Be more thoughtful during this time with your electricity and water usage. Since you are staying home more/ working from home these bills could sky rocket. I am lucky and live in an apartment that retains the air temp pretty well. I have had my air conditioning completely turned off since September/ October and it has been saving me $30-$50 a month. My air sits around 72 turned off and thatās fine for my roommate and I. We use our overhead fans at night and anytime we want! We also have a box fan if need it, but we never use it.
Stay Out of the Stores + Stay off the Websites
This one is huge. Right now if you donāt have money to spend DONāT SPEND IT. I would consider myself a shopaholic, but I had to cut cold turkey a couple weeks ago and I havenāt looked back. Getting yourself into debt just to buy that new pair of shoes ISN’T worth it. Do yourself a favor and just stop shopping for the time being. I promise you have enough clothes in your closet to make it through.
Get a Second Job
Not necessarily a way to save money but to make more money right now. HEB, Costco, Kroger, Walmart are ALL hiring right now not to mention Uber Eats, Grub Hub and Favor are too. Apply online first but then show up in store and ask for the hiring manager. It is always better to put a name to a face and if you show up with a resume in hand, bonus points!
xoxo, Cass
