Wow guys… I have been here for one whole week so far. WHAT? Honestly feels like ages since I have so much homework for school LOL. This first week has been full of ups and downs. I have cried like three times but I have also have had so many laughs and good times.
Since the last time we talked I said I was going on a run. Wow it was the most rewarding three miles of my life. I power walked from my hotel to this set of steep steps I found right past the plaza I then ran up the steps like a coach was standing behind me yelling at me to run the belchers faster lol. Probably more than 100 steps and like I said they were steep and challenging. Once up the steps I took a big breather and then I jogged up to the church I had gone to a couple days before. Up there overlooking the plaza was so serene and calming. There were some girls doing yoga and a guy doing push-ups and sit-ups so naturally I had to beat the guy in my head so I started doing push-ups and sit-ups too. After that I ran down the winding path to the middle of the plaza so I could look back up on my run. I then passed by the school on the way home to say hi to some friends before going back to the hotel to shower and eat breakfast.
While at my hotel I got an email that my business class was canceled so my new suitemate and I went to the market to get some groceries. We took a taxi to their mall where inside was a store kind of like Walmart. I wanted to get some food and snacks. I eat out every meal except for breakfast and that can get a little tiring. So I got some microwaveable noodles (not that that is any better hahaha). I also got some fresh fruit and sweet potato chips, by the way which are bomb. I also bought a big puffy black coat and an umbrella because it is beyond freezing over here. I legit sleep with leggings on, then my flannel pjs, then a sweatshirt and two pairs of socks. Oh, and the hotel gave me a portable space heater and I have four blankets in between my comforter and my basic sheet. So saying I’m cold is an understatement. My business teacher joked with me yesterday that our class brought the cold rainy weather. It is their dry season now and he said they haven’t had rain in a month…
The following day when I woke up it was raining, of course, so I didn’t go on a run. The breakfasts have been pretty good so far. They haven’t had the freshly squeezed orange juice in a hot second but I think they have had apricot juice which has been amazing. They also had cut up apples out one morning and I could not get enough of them. So so good. After breakfast I got ready then went to Starbucks to study. One, they do not have coconut milk or almond milk. Two, their wifi sucked. And three, it was way too loud when I was there this time. So I’m actually let down because if you know me, you know how much I love me some Starbucks. I went back to school to try and study but all my friends were hanging out in-between their classes so of course I got nothing done there either.
My nutrition class is literally KILLING me. Like I am dead, my eyes are dead, my brain cells are dead, my ears are dead after this class and trying to work on assignments. My teacher literally cares so much about this class and it is really nice to see his passion but I share none of it. I try to listen and pay attention in class but his accent is so thick and it’s hard to understand so i sometimes zone off. I also have a huge presentation to give over a sixteen page paper I have to read. I started to read the paper and within the first paragraph I had to google what six things meant and the paper was in English… like I am not a nutrition major nor do I care about some of this stuff. Especially the paper, it is about how they found 1,000 bodies and they are examining their bones to see if they had enough nutrition in the age of Inca Imperialism. Might sound interesting but it’s not when they use big words and equations every other second. I know I need to get over it now though because I have four more weeks of this class.
My business class on the other hand might be my most favorite college class of all time. No joke. I love this class so so much. I have learned so much in a short amount of time I take about five pages of notes a day and it doesn’t bother me whatsoever. I want to be in this class and it is so interesting. This teacher also asks me and my other classmate, Hannah, how everything ties into the US so it makes everything a lot clearer for us and it helps us understand Peru’s policies better. We also learned about Peru’s economy and what the average salary was here along with the percentage of unemployment and poverty rate. All this stuff interests me so much. We just started to get into globalization and international business so I know the upcoming class are about to get even better!
I’ve also already gone back and got my wings again by myself LOL. This time they brought out fries instead of potato wedges. Still, they tasted just as good as last time! I have also gotten their local fast food hamburger place and it wasn’t bad either. The other night I was craving veggies and a salad so Amanda and I went to this place in the plaza. I got a quinoa crusted chicken salad with huge chunks of avocado, mango and pecans. It was the best salad I have had in awhile. Amanda got chicken kabobs and she shared some of her zucchini and onions with me. For dessert we split a lemon meringue pie. Also if you know me you know I hate pies but this one was an exception hahah. I still want to try guinea pig and go to a nice steakhouse but that well come with time.
Saturday we are going on a city tour of cusco and Sunday we are going to visit somewhere else so I am super excited! Expect pictures and more to come once I finish those. Also I’m doing Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu next weekend so I am beyond pumped for that.
